Resilience ensures Heidelberg Materials can continue operating during disruption, starting with a clear understanding of critical business processes and their impact through Business Impact Analysis (BIA). NIS2 defines the governance, risk-management and operational obligations, while the NIST Cybersecurity Framework provides the structure to assess maturity and continuously strengthen our resilience. Supply-chain security is an essential part of this journey, addressing the dependencies and risks introduced by technology providers and connected products; in this context, the Cyber Resilience Act increasingly strengthens the security and lifecycle requirements for the technology ecosystem. Sovereign Cloud principles complement this by ensuring Heidelberg Materials retains appropriate control over critical data, platforms and operational capabilities. Together, these elements form a resilience roadmap toward a secure, resilient and digitally sovereign industrial enterprise.

After 44 years in IT, Paul’s professional journey is coming to an end.It started with eight years at Sibelco, followed by two years in the tour operating business, and then 34 years in a fast-growing, family-owned brewery, an extraordinary journey. The brewery grew, the business changed, technology evolved at an incredible pace—and IT had to keep up. Sometimes they were ahead of the business, sometimes they were running behind, but they always had the same objective: to support growth, continuity, and change. Along the way, he faced many challenges. Some were technological, some organizational, and quite a few had very little to do with technology at all. He will share some of the lessons learned from that journey.
